<image:caption>Motivated by a desire to train Cambodians to evangelize and disciple their own people, Joe and Veronica moved to Cambodia in 2012 to help at Phnom Penh Bible School. Because there are many first generation Cambodian Christians who are passionate about the gospel but lack biblical training, the ministry of PPBS to educate young Christians in biblical truth excited the Martins. Joe used his English teaching experience to develop the PPBS English department and advance the academic standards of the programs. Through the work of Joe and the other faculty, the bachelor’s degrees of Phnom Penh Bible School are now accredited through the Asia Theological Association. About Joe Joe has been working at Phnom Penh Bible School in various capacities since 2012. Joe currently serves as Academic Dean where he oversees the academic programs including accreditation through the Asia Theological Association. He also teaches exegesis courses and biblical interpretation. He also oversees the develop of the new Master of Arts in Christian Ministry at Phnom Penh Bible School. About Veronica Veronica serves at PPBS primarily serving in public relations as well as through teaching ESL to the students at the Bible School. In addition to serving at PPBS, she is also is homeschooling the Martin kids.</image:caption>

      <image:title>History - History</image:title>
<image:caption>The first evangelical missionaries to Cambodia in the modern era arrived in 1923 with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The first missionaries faced a lot of resistance to the gospel from the Cambodians and the French colonial government and only a few people became believers. However, they were able to establish a few small churches as well as translate the Bible into Khmer. During the turmoil of the late 60’s and early 70’s the church really began to grow reaching about 10,000 before the Khmer Rouge takeover. During the turmoil of the Khmer Rouge and subsequent civil war, most Christians were killed. By 1991 when religious freedom returned there were probably about 2000 Christians in Cambodia. Phnom Penh Bible School was established in 1992 to help train leaders for the Cambodian church. Since the early 90’s the church has grown quickly and most experts estimate that there are 250,000-400,000 Christians in Cambodia today. The purpose of Phnom Penh Bible School is to provide Bible training for these young people to be godly leaders for the Cambodian church—young people who will be instrumental in fulfilling the Great Commission in Cambodia.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Phnom Penh Bible School offers a four year college level program which prepares young men and women to serve the Cambodian church. Phnom Penh Bible School offers a Bachelor in Christian Ministry as well as a Bachelor of Theology. All of the undergraduate classes at PPBS are taught in Khmer (the Cambodian language) to help the students understand the Word of God more clearly in their heart language. The bachelor’s degrees are accredited by the Asia Theological Association (ATA). Phnom Penh Bible School offers a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry in the evenings for those who are working and serving full-time in Phnom Penh. The Master of Arts degree is also accredited by ATA.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Phnom Penh Bible School emphasizes the importance of personal spiritual growth and development of practical ministry skills in its students. All students participate in small groups at the Bible School. The small groups meet together every week to share and pray together as well as serve together around the school. Small groups also do annual trips to rural churches around Cambodia to serve with local pastors and learn about ministry in rural contexts as well as learn how to work together to serve in the local church. As part of their training, students also need to participate in weekend ministry all four years they study at the Bible School. This allows students to learn under and from local pastors and missionaries who help to train the students in ministry.</image:caption>
